Dr. Vivek Dhawan, MD, FRCPC
Respirology and Internal Medicine Specialist Physician
Background:
Originally from India, Dr.Vivek Dhawan has called Edmonton Alberta home for the last 20+ years. He is a dedicated Medical Doctor who specializes in Pulmonology and remains a ‘closet researcher’ as prior to this he acquired a Ph.D. in Physiology. He has been a Consultant physician since 2011 and has a special interest in Tuberculosis. He co-owns one of the most active Respiratory practices in Alberta. Vivek is married and enjoys spending quality time with his two children.
Situation:
By 2021, the challenges of medical office and hospital practice and running a business, challenges with time management, juggling responsibilities at home and at work, and delegating work to others, was creating great inefficiency and stress that was affecting his life - both at work and at home. This all seemed to be made worse with COVID. Vivek jumped at the chance to attend a full-day Group Workshop for physicians run by Kumar and Amit.
Outcome:
During the full-day workshop, the guidance and exercises Amit and Kumar provided enabled him to look into his inner self. They helped Vivek gain key insights that significantly shifted his life. He was able to clearly identify what truly matters to him (not the rest of the world), and the opportunity cost of not prioritizing his time and his life. While the program title suggested that he would learn to lead and manage more by priority and free-up time daily, what it turned out to be was a manual for life. Throughout the day Vivek was able to acquire a perspective that has served him to take the feedback from and manage his stress. This has allowed him to be more engaged with his own life and has had a positive impact on his work as well as his relationship with his wife, children, and his own personal health. In his own words, “...I’ve been able to incorporate their suggestions around overcoming my worry connected to delegation, saying no, and prioritizing the things in my life that actually matter to me.”.
